Enrique Salas has been taken into police custody for questioning amid suspicions the 22-year-old Sevilla defender was involved in illegal football betting.

Salas is reportedly being held for questioning in the case. After he was suspected of intentionally getting his name written off by a referee. So that an accomplice who had bet on him would be booked would be paid for it. Two other people close to him are also being questioned.

Salas has picked up three yellow cards in 14 La Liga games this season. But the 22-year-old defender was booked seven times in the final nine games of last season. The most in a player in that period – and questions have been raised over the issue, leading to a police investigation.

Salas is currently contracted until the summer of 2029 and has recently been linked with a move to Lazio. But the Italian club are likely to pull out of the race, while Sevilla have yet to make a public statement.
