Joan Laporta has shed light on a new deal with Nike as the club’s main sponsor. Including the sale of VIP seats to Middle Eastern investors to facilitate the signing of Daniel Olmo and Pau Victor Barcelona
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has explained the new deal with Nike as main sponsor of the Blaugrana. As well as the decision to sell 475 VIP seats to investors in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. With the club successfully registering Daniel Olmo and Pau Victor, Diario Sport reports on Tuesday ทางเข้า UFABET
Laporta explains that Barcelona have delayed signing a new deal with Nike from the summer in order to secure a better return. With the American brand agreeing to pay an extra €300m for an extension.
Said Laporta.
‘We hoped to register Olmo with a deal with Nike. At the time (Andreas) Christensen was injured. But La Liga confirmed it and we took advantage of the situation to register him. Thanks to Nike, we have a stable financial treasury that no one else has. We didn’t sign with Nike in the summer because we could improve it, and that’s what happened. ‘
‘We are talking about a difference of 300 million euros. Now we will receive three times what we received from the previous contract. When Ter Stegen was injured, the legal department interpreted that. The savings on his salary would allow us to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. We fought for it but they did not accept our request. Then we continued with Nike and La Liga. Which was approved by the Council (CSD),’ said Laporta.
The Barcelona president also gave further details about the sale of VIP seats at Spotify’s Camp Nou stadium to investors in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. In a move that will bring in additional cash for the club.
‘LaLiga considered that the contract with Nike did not have a new one. So we considered that we could appeal, like Gavi. But the court did not agree with us. So we activated new products. Which we have been working on since February 2024. Such as the commercialization of VIP seats. We have already used 475 seats and we still have some left. Which is very attractive to investors. We have found two investors who will reach a Fair Play agreement.’
Laporta added that
the sale of the VIP seats was worth €100 million and explained the source of the investors, but did not disclose their names.
‘The operation is going ahead regardless of the salary cap. We are very pleased to have created this new product. Barcelona will receive 300 million euros (from Nike) and another 100 million euros for the rights to sell these seats. They manage the seats with the associated risks and benefits.’
‘We didn’t invent it. The product works in the US. We adapted it for Barcelona, which is more beneficial than what the US fund offered under other conditions that did not affect fair play.’
‘We adapted it to enter into Fair Play. There was an investor from Qatar who invested 30 million euros in an investment approved by La Liga, another from the United Arab Emirates, another 70 million euros. The 40 million euros had to be approved and arrived on December 31 because the bank transfer did not arrive (a bank holiday).’
‘The rules do not state that financial certification is required, but La Liga demands it. Part of the money cannot be credited until January 3, but everything has been presented on time and in style.’
